Ritsurō Miyawaki is a Japanese earth scientist born in August 1959. He specializes in crystallography and mineralogy, and he earned a Doctor of Science degree from Tsukuba University in 1987 with a dissertation on the crystal chemistry of rare-earth minerals. He has held prominent positions including the director of the Geological Research Department at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Japan, former president of the Mineralogical Society of Japan, and honorary chairman of the New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification Committee of the International Mineralogical Association.
