Robert Alton Harris was an American criminal executed in 1992 for the murders of two teenage boys in San Diego in 1978. Born in North Carolina, he had a troubled childhood, including early engagement with the law and juvenile detention for car theft. After a past of violence, including an earlier manslaughter conviction, he and his brother kidnapped and murdered two boys, which led to his arrest shortly after and subsequent conviction. His execution marked California's return to the death penalty after a 25-year hiatus.
