Robert Louis Asp (1923-1980) was an American educator from Minnesota, recognized for his role in building the replica Viking ship Hjemkomst. He conceived the project while working as a guidance counselor in the early 1970s. Despite a leukemia diagnosis, he led the construction, and Hjemkomst was launched in 1980. Asp served as captain during its maiden voyage on Lake Superior. His dream materialized in 1982 when his children sailed the ship to Norway. Asp's legacy is commemorated in a documentary and his posthumous induction into the Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame.
