He was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 1969 through the ROTC program and progressed through all officer ranks, serving in various engineering roles. His military career included leadership positions in Germany, during the Gulf War, and overseeing the Mississippi Valley Division. After retirement, he became a consultant.
