Robert Bruce Meyer is an American physicist and professor at Brandeis University, born on October 13, 1943, in St. Louis. He studied at Harvard University, earning his bachelor's degree in 1965 and a PhD in liquid crystals in 1970 under David Turnbull. Meyer became an assistant professor in 1971 and a professor at Brandeis in 1978. His research focuses on liquid crystals and novel soft materials, particularly chirality, electrical polarizability, phase transitions, and liquid crystal gels. He is a recipient of the Oliver E. Buckley Condensed Matter Prize and the Benjamin Franklin Medal.
