His early ministry included roles as a Curate at Broughty Ferry and Rector of the Church of the Holy Rood in Carnoustie from 1965 to 1972. After this, he returned to Broughty Ferry and became a Canon at St Paul's Cathedral in Dundee, contributing to the religious community in Scotland for several decades.
