Robert C. Turner (1913–2005) was an influential American potter celebrated for his functional ceramics and sculptural vessels. He studied at Swarthmore College and earned his MFA from Alfred University. Turner established the studio pottery program at Black Mountain College and was a faculty member at Alfred University until 1979. Known for his transition from functional to nonfunctional works, Turner received numerous accolades, including an honorary doctorate from Swarthmore and the American Craft Council Gold medal. His legacy continues with the Robert C. Turner Chair in Ceramic Art at Alfred University.
