Robert Fourer, born on September 2, 1950, is a prominent scientist in operations research and management science. He serves as the President of AMPL Optimization, Inc and is Professor Emeritus at Northwestern University. Known for creating the AMPL modeling language, he has received several awards, including the 1993 ORSA/CSTS Prize and a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2002. Fourer has also been recognized as a fellow of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences since 2004. His work includes extending the Simplex algorithm and improving numerical stability in solving indefinite linear systems.
