Robert Koffler Jarvik is an American scientist, researcher, and entrepreneur, born on May 11, 1946. He is best known for developing the Jarvik-7 artificial heart. Jarvik was born in Midland, Michigan, to parents Norman Eugene Jarvik and Edith Koffler Jarvik, and he grew up in Stamford, Connecticut. He is the nephew of Murray Jarvik, a pharmacist who contributed to the invention of the nicotine patch.
