Robert L. Tignor (1933–2022) was an American historian and Egyptologist who specialized in British colonialism and its impacts. He was known for his work in global history and modern histories of Egypt, Nigeria, and Kenya. Tignor served as an emeritus professor at Princeton, where he spent his entire academic career. He was the director of Princeton's African studies program and co-authored the influential two-volume work 'Worlds Together, Worlds Apart: A History of the Modern World.' Tignor graduated with honors from Worcester College and received his advanced degrees from Yale.
