Robert Major (1914–2005) was a Norwegian civil servant and research administrator, known as the 'father of research council'. He served as the director of the Norwegian Technical-Natural Science Research Council from 1946 to 1981 and played a crucial role in the development of Norway's research sector in the post-war period. He was also active in the resistance during World War II, escaping to the UK in 1941 and serving as a captain in military intelligence.
