Robert Andrew McGladdery (18 October 1935 – 20 December 1961) was the last person executed in Northern Ireland. He was convicted of murdering his distant cousin Pearl Gamble, 19, after battering, strangling, and stabbing her to death on 28 January 1961. Despite claiming innocence, he was found guilty and sentenced to death on 16 October 1961. McGladdery confessed to the murder before his execution and was hanged at Crumlin Road Gaol on 20 December 1961. His case inspired a BBC dramatization and a novel.
