Robert Serber was an American physicist born on March 14, 1909, in Philadelphia and passed away on June 1, 1997. He played a significant role in the Manhattan Project and is known for his lectures that outlined the fundamental principles and goals of the project for incoming scientists, which were published as the Los Alamos Primer. The New York Times referred to him as the 'intellectual midwife' at the birth of the atomic bomb. He served as the president of the American Physical Society in 1971.
