Reverend Robert Shields (May 17, 1918 – October 15, 2007) was a Protestant minister and high school teacher from Dayton, Washington, USA. He is most renowned for authoring the longest diary in the world, comprising approximately 37.5 million words and chronicling every five minutes of his life from 1972 until a stroke in 1997. Shields donated his diary to Washington State University in 1999 with conditions for its release, but some excerpts were published earlier. His entries primarily include health records, dreams, meals, activities, and conversations.
