Robert Shy was an American jazz musician born on May 20, 1939, in Lexington and passed away on November 8, 2018. He was a prominent drummer in the Chicago jazz scene from the early 1960s. Shy was co-founder of the band The Three Souls, which recorded with saxophonist Sonny Cox in 1964. Over the years, he played with renowned artists such as Roland Kirk, Richie Cole, and Willie Pickens. He participated in 45 jazz recording sessions between 1960 and 2008, with his last recorded performance featuring singer Solitaire Miles. He last performed at the Hyde Park Jazz Festival in 2011.
