He is renowned for his contributions to science fiction literature, having received multiple Hugo Awards, including for Best Novelette for "Wings of Night" in 1969 and again for "Gilgamesh in the Outback" in 1987. He also won the Hugo Award for Best Novella for "Enter the Soldier. Later: Enter Another" in 1990.
