Robert K. Soost (1920-2009) was a prominent citrus expert and genetics professor at the University of California, Riverside. He played a key role in developing significant citrus varieties, including the noteworthy grapefruits Oroblanco and Melogold. Soost also contributed to the literature on citrus through co-authorship of volume II of The Citrus Industry. His academic journey began at UC Berkeley, and he notably served as the sixth curator of the University of California Citrus Variety Collection. He passed away on March 8, 2009, due to a heart attack.
