Robert Webster Ford was a British radio officer born on 27 March 1923 and died on 20 September 2013. He worked in Tibet during the late 1940s and was one of the few Westerners appointed by the Tibetan Government during its period of de facto independence. After being arrested by Chinese forces and imprisoned for five years, he later declared an important personal experience of Tibetan independence. In 1956, he joined the British Diplomatic Service and served in the Foreign Office.
