Roberto Antonio Ares was an Argentine lawyer and the last Minister of the Interior before the 1976 coup. Born on April 18, 1912, in Buenos Aires, he was involved in Peronism and held various public positions during Juan Domingo Perón's first government, including Secretary of Economy from 1949 to 1952. Appointed Minister of the Interior in January 1976, Ares aimed to maintain President Isabel Perón's government despite increasing opposition and internal turmoil leading up to the coup. His efforts ultimately failed, and he was unable to prevent the military takeover that occurred shortly thereafter.
