Rod Campbell is a Scottish author and illustrator born on May 4, 1945. He is best known for his children's books, including the iconic lift-the-flap board book 'Dear Zoo.' Raised in Zimbabwe and later returning to Britain, Campbell earned a doctorate in organic chemistry before entering the world of children's publishing in 1980. He innovated interactive books with repetitive phrases and founded Campbell Blackie Books in 1987, which became Campbell Books in 1989, and was sold to Macmillan Publishers in 1995.
