Rod J. Rosenstein is an American attorney who served as the 37th Deputy Attorney General of the United States from April 2017 to May 2019. Before this appointment, he was the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland. Notably, he wrote a memo used by President Trump to justify the dismissal of FBI Director James Comey. He also oversaw the special counsel investigation led by Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Rosenstein resigned from his position on April 29, 2019, and joined the law firm King & Spalding in January 2020.
