Roger Ralph Chapman was a notable British submariner and businessman born on 29 July 1945. A former Royal Navy lieutenant, he is best remembered for being one of the two survivors of the deepest submersible rescue in history in 1973. He was the founder of the first all-electric ROV company and designed subs for rescue operations. In 2005, he successfully rescued seven Russian sailors using his submersible and was awarded a CBE for his efforts in 2006.
