Roger Meï is a French politician born on May 3, 1935, in Hyères. He grew up in poverty on the island of Porquerolles. Meï was elected as the mayor of Gardanne in 1977, serving for an impressive 43 years until 2020. He consistently defeated his electoral opponents in the first round of elections, with the exception of the 1989 cycle. Additionally, he served as a member of the National Assembly from 1996 to 2002 for the French Communist Party, representing the Bouches-du-Rhône's 10th constituency.
