Sir Roger Vernon Scruton (1944-2020) was an English conservative philosopher and writer, specializing in aesthetics and political philosophy, particularly advocating traditional conservative views. He served as editor of The Salisbury Review from 1982 to 2001 and authored over fifty books on various subjects including philosophy, art, music, politics, culture, sexuality, and religion. He received recognition for his contributions to conservatism following the 1968 student uprisings in France, taught at Birkbeck College, and was knighted in 2016 for his services to philosophy and education. His documentary 'Why Beauty Matters' aired in 2009.
