Roland B. Scott (1909-2002) was a prominent American pediatrician and researcher, renowned for his work on sickle cell disease. In 1948, he published a crucial paper on the incidence of the disease in infants, which led to the implementation of newborn screening. Scott founded the Howard University Center for Sickle Cell Disease and served as chair of the pediatrics department there. He was instrumental in advocating for the Sickle Cell Anemia Control Act of 1971 and contributed over 250 publications covering topics such as allergy, growth and development, and sickle cell disease.
