Roland Kiessling was a Swedish chemist, metallographer, and director, born on March 1, 1921, in Borås and passing away on March 20, 2009. He completed his PhD at Uppsala University in 1950 and was appointed professor of metallurgical research in 1962. Kiessling served as director of the Institute of Metallurgical Research from 1960 to 1970, and later became the CEO of the Swedish Mechanical Engineering Association from 1980 to 1986. He was elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences in 1962 and to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in 1973.
