Rolf Geiger was a German chemist known for his significant contributions to peptide research and the synthesis of insulin. He led the peptide group at Hoechst AG in Frankfurt for nearly 20 years, founding the group in 1969. Geiger was instrumental in the semi-synthetic production of insulin in the 1970s, a breakthrough that transformed diabetes treatment. He received the Emil Fischer Medal in 1988 for his industrial peptide synthesis work and served as an honorary professor at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University. He studied in Tübingen and earned his doctorate in Berlin.
