Rolf Wetzel (born January 5, 1921, in Chemnitz) is a former German politician and president of the East German central bank (Deutsche Notenbank). He began his career in the insurance industry and became a member of the Socialist Unity Party (SED) after World War II. Wetzel held various positions, including director of the Deutsche Versicherungsanstalt and deputy finance minister, before becoming the president of the Deutsche Notenbank in 1961. He later served as the director of DARAG after being relieved from his earlier position due to conflicts with the finance ministry.
