Roman Koval is a Ukrainian public figure, writer, local historian, and researcher focusing on the history of the Ukrainian liberation struggle in the first half of the 20th century. Born on April 10, 1959, in Horlivka, he is a member of the National Union of Journalists (joined in 1995) and the National Union of Writers of Ukraine (joined in 1998). Koval is also an academician of the National Academy of Higher Education of Ukraine since December 23, 2013, and has served as the president of the Historical Club "Cold Yar" since January 1997.
