Rona Rupert, née Davel, was an Afrikaans author born on February 7, 1934, in Calvinia. She wrote 33 books for children and young adults, earning several prestigious awards, including the C.P. Hoogenhout Prize and the Scheepers Prize for Youth Literature. Rupert studied Afrikaans and music at Stellenbosch University, graduated in 1953, and taught music for years. Along with her husband Koos Rupert, she co-founded the Karoo Book House in Calvinia, providing a peaceful space for writers to live and work. She passed away on August 25, 1995.
