Ronald Getoor was an American mathematician born on February 9, 1929, in Royal Oak, Michigan. He studied mathematics at the University of Michigan, earning his Bachelor's in 1950, Master's in 1951, and Ph.D. in 1954. He held a postdoctoral position at Princeton University and later became an Assistant Professor and then a Professor at the University of Washington. Getoor specialized in probability theory and Markov processes. He was a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics. He passed away on October 28, 2017.
