Ronald Haxton Girdwood (1917-2006) was a distinguished Scottish physician and Professor of Therapeutics at the University of Edinburgh. He was a prominent researcher in megaloblastic anaemia, earning a gold medal for his MD thesis. Girdwood served as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine from 1975 to 1982, playing a crucial role in expanding the medical school. His contributions extended to the Committee on Safety of Medicines, and he was elected to notable medical societies such as the Harveian Society and the Aesculapian Club. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society and received a CBE.
