Ronald Joseph Shurer II was a United States Army Special Forces staff sergeant and medic who received the Medal of Honor for his bravery during the Battle of Shok Valley in April 2008. While under heavy fire from over 200 enemy fighters, he fought for more than an hour to aid his team and successfully eliminated several insurgents. Initially awarded a Silver Star, his recognition was upgraded to the Medal of Honor by The Pentagon in 2016, and he received this honor in a White House ceremony in October 2018.
