Rosamond Carr was an American humanitarian, author, and farmer born on August 28, 1912, in South Orange, New Jersey. After marrying British explorer Kenneth Carr in 1942, they settled in the Belgian Congo before she established a pyrethrum flower plantation in Rwanda. A close friend of Dian Fossey, Carr founded the Imbabazi Orphanage in 1994 during the Rwandan genocide, caring for 120 children. She published her autobiography, 'Land of a Thousand Hills,' in 1999. Carr passed away on September 29, 2006, in Rwanda, and was buried at her flower farm.
