Rose Treviño was a prominent children's librarian and advocate for library services for Latinos, born on December 17, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas. She was the first Hispanic branch manager in San Antonio and created the first bilingual 'Born to Read' program. Treviño also became the first Latino chair of the Newbery Award committee and served as the Youth Services Coordinator for the Houston Public Library System. In her honor, a scholarship was established to support Latinos and Spanish speakers pursuing degrees in children's librarianship.
