Ross Thornton (23 October 1956 – 25 April 2024) was an Australian rules footballer known for his time with Fitzroy in the VFL during the 1980s. Originally from Camperdown, he joined Fitzroy in 1980 and became a key defender. He won the Best and Fairest award in 1984 and was later included in Prahran's Team of the Century. Beyond football, he participated in The Amazing Race Australia with his daughter and served on the Brisbane Lions Board. Thornton passed away from cancer at the age of 67.
