Tsenkova obtained a doctoral degree in engineering in Russia and another in agriculture in Japan. She pioneered the use of near-infrared spectroscopy for non-invasive biosensing, focusing on diagnosing diseases in animals. She proposed the new scientific discipline of aquaphotomics in 2005 and continues research related to water molecules in biological systems. She is multilingual, fluent in Bulgarian, Russian, English, and Japanese.
