Roza Shanina (April 1924 – January 28, 1945) was a Soviet sniper during World War II, credited with killing 59 German soldiers, including 12 during the Battle of Vilnius. After her brother's death in 1941, she volunteered for the army and became a frontline sniper renowned for her exceptional marksmanship, including the ability to hit two targets with one bullet. Shanina was the first female sniper to receive the Order of Glory and was killed in combat while attempting to aid an injured officer. Her wartime diary was published in 1965.
