Rudranath Capildeo was a notable Trinidadian and Tobagonian politician, mathematician, and barrister born on February 2, 1920. He led the Democratic Labour Party from 1960 to 1969 and served as the first Leader of the Opposition in Trinidad and Tobago's Parliament from 1962 to 1967. As a member of the prominent Capildeo family, he also contributed to academia as a Reader of Mathematics at the University of London. His contributions to the nation were recognized with the Trinity Cross award in 1969.
