Rufus 'Speedy' Jones was an American jazz drummer born on May 27, 1936, in Charleston, USA. He initially played the trumpet but quickly transitioned to drums. His musical career began with Lionel Hampton's orchestra, after which he became a session musician in New York throughout the 1950s. He played for four years with Maynard Ferguson's big band before forming his own quartet in 1963. Jones also performed with Count Basie's big band and Duke Ellington, contributing to some of their significant recordings. He released an album under his own name.
