Rune Elmqvist (December 1, 1906 – December 15, 1996) was a Swedish engineer and inventor known for developing the first implantable pacemaker in collaboration with surgeon Åke Senning. He was significantly involved in the first implantation of a pacemaker on October 8, 1958, in patient Arne Larsson. Although he studied medicine, he did not practice as a physician. While working at Lund University Hospital, he created a multi-channel ECG in 1931 and later developed the mingograph, the first ECG ink printer, in 1948 at Elema-Schönander.
