Rune Kjølstad, born in 1962, served as the mayor of Røyken municipality from 1999 to 2015. He is a member of Høgre and has been part of Buskerud Fylkesting since 2015. Initially a member of the Progress Party (Frp), he became a city council member in 1979 and was the youngest acting mayor of Norway at age 27 from 1989. Kjølstad was re-elected as mayor in 2003, 2007, and 2011. He declined re-election in 2015 to run for county mayor for Buskerud Høgre.
