Russ Rimmington, born on 29 December 1945 in Oamaru, New Zealand, served as the 30th Mayor of Hamilton and later became the chair of the Waikato Regional Council after the 2019 local elections. He was recognized for his public service with an appointment as a Companion of the Queen's Service Order in the 2003 New Year Honours. In May 2022, he was replaced as chair due to controversial comments regarding the Three Waters reform programme.
