Russell Jacob Seibert was an American botanist born on August 14, 1914. He served as the first director of the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden from 1950 to 1955. Following that, he worked at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, until his retirement in 1979. Seibert was also the curator emeritus of tropical horticulture at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. He grew up on a farm in Illinois and received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in botany from Washington University. He passed away in Sarasota, Florida, on November 28, 2004.
