Starting her publishing career at the age of 70, she oversaw the publication of 900 books as an associate publisher at Thomas Dunne Books. A graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology, she initially lived as a suburban housewife before moving into publishing. Cavin played a significant role in developing first novels for many recognized mystery authors. She was honored as the 'First Lady of Mysteries' and contributed to the literary community until her diagnosis with lung cancer in 2010.
