Ryō Kubota is a Japanese novelist and copywriter born on June 7, 1952, in Hokkaido, Japan. He graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Hokkaido University. Kubota gained recognition in 1976 by winning the inaugural 'Pencil Prize' for his short story 'Shizuko-chan'. He has written short stories, youth novels, and essays, primarily published in Shueisha's Cobalt and Kadokawa's Sneaker Bunko. He transitioned later into children's literature, adapting Disney works into novels and picture books.
