Ryōichi Doi, born on March 23, 1955, is a Japanese novelist from Hokkaido. He graduated from Hokkaido Sapporo Asahikawa High School and studied in the United States. Doi gained recognition in 1978 when he won the first Gunzo New Writer Prize for his novel 'California'. He was nominated for the Akutagawa Prize for his works 'Shimakage' in 1980 and 'Aozora no Yukue' in 1984 and won the Hokkaido Shimbun Literary Prize for 'Yakai' in 1985. He currently resides in Ishikari City.
