Rysbai Hismetovitch Gabdiev (February 5, 1936 - 2004) was a prominent Kazakh dombyra player and conductor, honored as a People's Artist of Kazakhstan in 1996. He gained recognition by winning first place at a national competition in Almaty in 1953. Gabdiev educated at both Almaty Music College and Shymkent Arts Institute, later directed and taught at various music institutions. He led the Atyrau Region Folk Instruments Orchestra starting in 1990. His performances earned him international accolades, and he authored several educational books on music.
