Ryū Matsumoto (1951-2018) was a Japanese politician and member of the Democratic Party, serving in the House of Representatives from 1990 to 2012. He held the positions of Minister of the Environment and State Minister for Disaster Management. After studying political science, Matsumoto began his political career in the early 1990s. He was involved in various parliamentary committees and served as chair of significant bodies. In 2011, he oversaw post-earthquake recovery efforts but resigned shortly after due to controversies. He passed away from lung cancer in 2018.
