Stafford Fitzgerald Haney, born on January 3, 1969, is an American diplomat and businessman. He served as the U.S. Ambassador to Costa Rica from 2015 to 2017, after being nominated by President Barack Obama in July 2014. Haney was confirmed by the Senate in May 2015 and was notable for being the only Obama-appointed political ambassador who continued under the Donald Trump administration. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, raised in Naperville, Illinois, and holds degrees in international economics and international business and diplomacy from Georgetown University.
